Terms of Service
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern access to and use of Berea, including the marketing site at tryberea.study, the authenticated workspace at app.tryberea.study, and related APIs. By creating an account or using Berea, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the service.
1. The service
Berea is a platform for serious Bible study. It may include a multi-version reader, original-language tools (such as interlinear and lexicon), hybrid search, a personal and curated library, connected notes, study layouts, real-time team collaboration, public reading plans where offered, and research agents that expose tool traces and citations.
Features evolve. We may add, change, or discontinue modules with reasonable notice when the change is material. Beta or experimental features may be less stable and are provided as-is.
2. Eligibility and accounts
You must be legally able to enter a contract in your jurisdiction and meet any minimum age we state in the Privacy Policy. You are responsible for the accuracy of registration information and for keeping credentials confidential.
One person or legal entity per account unless we expressly allow shared seats under a team plan. You must promptly notify us of unauthorized use. We may suspend accounts that appear compromised or that violate these Terms.
3. Acceptable use
You may use Berea only for lawful study, teaching preparation, research, and related personal or organizational purposes that respect third-party rights.
You must not: attempt to bypass authentication or rate limits; scrape the service in a way that degrades it or violates licenses; upload malware; harass others in collaborative spaces; use agents to generate spam, phishing, or deceptive content; reverse engineer non-public parts of the service except where mandatory law allows; or resell access without our written consent.
You must not use Berea to infringe copyright in Bible editions, commentaries, or books. Uploading a file you do not have rights to store or share is a breach of these Terms.
4. Research agents and AI assistance
Agents are tools that help you investigate passages and sources. They may call search, lexicon, library, and other tools and show intermediate steps. Outputs can be incomplete, biased, or wrong. You must verify claims against Scripture and licensed sources before relying on them in teaching, publication, or pastoral care.
Berea does not ordain, endorse, or replace human judgment, church authority, or academic peer review. Agent drafts inserted into notes remain your content and your responsibility.
You agree not to use agents to seek instructions for criminal activity or to process special categories of data about others without a lawful basis.
5. Your content
You retain ownership of notes, uploads, and other material you create (“Your Content”). You grant Berea a worldwide, non-exclusive license to host, process, transmit, display, and back up Your Content solely to operate and improve the service (including running agents you invoke on that content and syncing it to devices and teammates you authorize).
If you share content with a team or publish a public plan, you grant the recipients the rights implied by that sharing feature. You can revoke sharing by removing access where the product allows; copies already downloaded by others may persist outside our control.
You represent that Your Content does not violate law or others’ rights. We may remove content that appears to breach these Terms or applicable licenses, especially if a rights holder notifies us.
6. Berea’s intellectual property
The product UI, software, trademarks, marketing artwork, and non-user documentation are owned by Berea or its licensors. These Terms do not transfer those rights to you. You may not copy the branding or scrape the marketing site for competing clones.
Scripture text and third-party library works remain subject to their own licenses. Features that display them do not expand your redistribution rights.
7. Teams and collaboration
Team administrators decide who joins, what is shared, and when access ends. If you join a team, you acknowledge that admins and members with permission may see shared layouts, documents, and presence information.
When your membership ends, you may lose access to team-owned material even if you contributed to it, subject to any export tools we provide and applicable law.
8. Third-party services
Berea relies on subprocessors for hosting, authentication, storage, email, and model inference. Their failure or change may affect availability. Links to external sites are not endorsements; their terms and privacy practices apply to those sites.
9. Availability and changes
We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Maintenance, force majeure, upstream outages, or abuse mitigation may cause downtime. We may throttle or suspend usage that threatens platform stability.
10. Disclaimers
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BEREA IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE”, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that agent answers, search rankings, or lexicon glosses are complete or error-free.
Nothing in Berea constitutes legal, medical, or professional pastoral advice. Scripture engagement remains your theological and pastoral responsibility.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Berea and its suppliers will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, data, or goodwill, arising from your use of the service.
Our aggregate liability for claims relating to the service in any twelve-month period is limited to the greater of (a) the amounts you paid us for the service in that period, or (b) fifty euros (EUR 50), except where liability cannot be limited under mandatory law (for example death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud).
12. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Berea against claims arising from Your Content, your misuse of agents, your breach of these Terms, or your violation of third-party Bible or book licenses, to the extent permitted by law.
13. Suspension and termination
You may stop using Berea and request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. We may suspend or terminate access for breach, legal risk, or prolonged inactivity, after notice when reasonable.
Provisions that by nature should survive (including intellectual property, disclaimers, limitations, and indemnity) survive termination.
14. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of Spain, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, unless mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence require otherwise. Courts of Madrid, Spain, will have jurisdiction, subject to any non-waivable rights you have to bring claims in your local courts as a consumer.
Before filing a claim, please contact us at legal@tryberea.study so we can try to resolve the issue informally.
15. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the product or law changes. We will revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, provide additional notice when required. If you continue using Berea after the effective date, you accept the updated Terms where permitted. If you do not agree, you must stop using the service and may request deletion of your account.
